ASEPA calls for transparency regarding Tema Oil Refinery and Sentuo Oil Refinery alleged sale

The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has raised concerns regarding the alleged sale of the (TOR) to Sentuo Oil Refinery, a Chinese-owned private oil refinery. ASEPA's Executive Director, Mensah Thompson, revealed that ASEPA received a whistle-blower alert from a TOR insider about a meeting between TOR management and Sentuo Oil Refinery Ltd., purportedly discussing the sale of the national refinery to Sentuo.

According to ASEPA, the meeting allegedly took place on April 4 and lasted from 10 am to 1 pm at the premises of TOR, followed by a celebration at Sentuo Oil Refinery Ltd. However, neither the media nor TOR has officially addressed the matter.

In response, ASEPA is invoking the Right to Information Law to compel both TOR and Sentuo Oil Refinery to disclose the nature of their relationship. ASEPA seeks clarification on whether TOR has been sold to Sentuo, whether Sentuo has assumed management of TOR, or if certain aspects of TOR's operations have been transferred to Sentuo.

Furthermore, ASEPA demands disclosure of the content of the April 4th meeting between both parties and its ramifications for the future of TOR. Emphasizing TOR's duty of care to citizens as a public institution, ASEPA insists on transparency in all operations and management, as required by Ghanaian law.
