Gromal Investment and Industries Limited, a Ho-based business venture, has launched its latest product, the ‘Gromal Delight,’ a peanut and rice snack locally known as ‘Dzowoe’ in Ewe or ‘Darkwa’ in Twi. The company, led by CEO Reverend Edwin Mawuli Azariah, unveiled the snack at a ceremony where he shared that the idea for the product came from a divine revelation, prompting the family to research and develop the healthy, organic snack.
Rev. Azariah highlighted that ‘Gromal Delight’ is made from purely organic ingredients, offering a nutritious option that satisfies cravings while promoting a healthy body shape. The product has received approval from Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), and efforts are underway to secure registration with the U.S. FDA to facilitate international export.
Envisioning the snack as a household commodity in Ghana and beyond, Rev. Azariah expressed plans to leverage the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) to expand the product’s reach across Africa. He also emphasized the potential of entrepreneurship and small-scale enterprises in addressing Ghana’s unemployment challenges, advocating for youth involvement in self-employment over pursuing scarce white-collar jobs.
Rev. Azariah projected that once fully operational, the business could employ up to 2,000 youth across the production value chain. He extended his gratitude to key supporters, including Togbe Adzimah IV, Atamfia of Asogli State, and his family members.
Madam Doris Ama Bansah, Senior Export Development Officer of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) in the Volta region, praised the non-traditional export (NTE) sector for contributing $3.9 billion to Ghana’s economy in 2023, with the Volta region playing a significant role. She highlighted the potential for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region and encouraged entrepreneurs to expand through partnerships, especially in the context of AfCFTA.
Togbe Anikpi, Divisional Chief of Ho-Ahoe and Board Chairman of Gromal Delight Investments, praised the rebranding of traditional delicacies like ‘Dzowoe/Darkwa’ with added nutritional value, predicting that the snack could compete with other market candies and become a continental favorite in the coming years.
Togbe Adzimah IV, Atamfia of Asogli State, reflected on the humble beginnings of Gromal ventures and praised Rev. Azariah’s determination in bringing the product to market. He expressed confidence that with continued dedication, the venture would achieve great success.
Prophet Joseph Tsetse of Adonai Estate Limited, who presided over the event, reminded attendees not to underestimate small beginnings, describing them as “greatness in incubation.” The launch event concluded with the first three boxes of Gromal Delight being purchased for GHC1,000 and GHC500.
