Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey participates in Korea-Africa summit held in Seoul

Madam , Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has accompanied President Nana Addo Dankwa to the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit held in Seoul, South Korea, which was held from 4th to 5th, June.

A statement issued by the and Regional Integration, copied to the Ghana News Agency said the Summit, which was convened under the theme, “The Future We Make Together: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity” sought to propel the partnership between Korea and Africa to new heights and focus on achieving mutual prosperity and collaboration to tackle global challenges.

It said the Summit discussed among others the importance of leveraging Africa's vast natural and human resources, and the Republic of Korea's expertise in industrialisation and technology to achieve a mutually beneficial partnership that enhances growth and development for both regions.

It noted that the Summit concluded with the adoption of a declaration between Africa and Korea.

The statement said prior to the Summit, Madam Ayorkor Botchwey participated in the Foreign Ministers meeting, which was considered a Draft Vision Statement.

It said Madam Ayorkor Botchwey, in the company of Dr , Ghana's Minister for Finance, held a bilateral meeting with Mr Cho Tae Yul, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, in the margins of the Summit.

The statement said the Meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in areas such as climate change, defence, infrastructure and education.

It said at the end of the meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Renewal of the Korea-Ghana Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) Framework Agreement from 2024-2028 was signed.
